Husky - Aya - Medium - Young - Female - Dog
Aya has returned to Songdog after failing her initial adoption. This beautiful young girl will take a very special, and very experienced home. While her first adopter worked with her for about 2-3 months, and absolutely adored her, Aya began to break out of their backyard. She is capable of going through wood fencing, chicken wire, and hog panels. She can also jump 6' fences. She will take containment, not just fencing. This means lean ins, dig guards, and woven wire horse fencing or something of equal strength. Aya is a breed called a Native American Indian Dog or just NAID for short, which is a relatively new breed in development since the 70's. Many of these dogs have a spitz look without irritating allergies like a normal husky may. However, every dog is different, so we do not recommend Aya for a family that has someone at home with significant allergies unless they are willing to meet the dog in person first. Aya is a little over a year old and came from a breeder in California. She was passed around against the breeders consent after placement in her first home. Her first home did not properly socialize her, and her second home was a pet trainer who wanted to take her on a 'project' dog. However, it is evident they didn't have very much success improving on her lack of socialization because she was eventually put up on Craigslist where a dog rescue found her. This smaller rescue took on Aya, but only had her for approximately three weeks before becoming convinced she was a wolfdog. It was at this point in time they contacted us, and we received Aya as well as following up with the poor breeder who had been trying to track down this dog after the first transition. Aya stayed with her Songdog foster for 3 months before being adopted out, and was returned to us after 3 months in that new home. During the transition, she broke out of transport, and spent about two weeks in the wilds of Cottage Grove, OR until being trapped. She is now staying with Emerald Valley Wolves, who reports while she can be quite the troublemaker, she still loves to cuddle. We can confirm that Aya is NOT a wolfdog. However, she is extremely under socialized and takes a very long time to bond to people, especially men. She will absolutely need a resident dog to take queues from in a new home, as she doesn't know how to read people. A new home will need to long line her in order to touch her, as well as engage in hand feeding to help her bond to her person. Remember, she has been through five homes before the age of one. She will need patience and consistency! She will reward these two things with cuddling, and loves to play with other dogs. She has done fine with the resident cats, and loves to show off her tricks like lie down, dance on her back feet, and sit. She walks nicely on leash unless she gets scared of something, and then she needs to be calmed down by simply shortening up the leash and holding her still until she stops panicking. Aya is destructive in the home when left home alone, but mostly with cords and other things she can fit in her mouth. She does crate but she doesn't like to crate as she would like to be up to mischief. A reinforced metal crate is necessary as she has learned how to break out of the corners of the crates or open the doors if they are not zip tied shut. She is also a notorious counter surfer and garbage can conqueror. Her foster mom keeps the kitchen closed off during the day and has a locking garbage can, but anything left on the counters with a turned back is usually fair game. Aya is not appropriate for a home with small children or lots of foot traffic due to how nervous new things make her. However, she loves playing with her toys and cuddling with her foster parents in the morning.
